P6 and Microsoft Project are scheduling engines. They hold the logic, the dates and the critical path. What they will not hand you, without a fortnight of manual work, is the earned value position, the change and risk exposure, the cost forecast and the report the client actually reads.
Nothing is imported and nothing is converted. You export two tables from P6 or Microsoft Project, an activity list and a relationship list, and paste them in. The programme of record does not move.
P6 will tell you the critical path. It will not tell you the cost performance index, the P80 outturn, the retention exposure or the productivity loss against a measured mile. Those are separate disciplines and it was never built to do them.
